Moisturizing
Opposite to popular belief and opinions of some specialists, moisturizing is not a widespread “must do” of basic skin care. Not everybody needs moisturizing. In fact, badly selected and misused moisturizers can do more harm than good.
People with greasy skin do not need to moisturize because the amount of sebum they produce have more than sufficient emollient and moisturizing result. People with normal skin do not necessarily need to moisturize since they also generate sufficient sebum and other natural emollients and humectants. In some cases (e.g. dry climate, frequent water exposure, etc.) people with normal skin can use an oil-free moisturizer after washing to prevent the development of dry skin. Moisturizing does improvements to dry skin (and dry areas of combination skin) by increasing the skin’s defense function, reducing irritation, sensitivity as well as creating a plushier look. Nevertheless, moisturizing alone does not have a major impact on the development (and prevention) of wrinkles and other signs of skin aging.
In case you decide to apply a moisturizer, make sure you pick up the right type for your skin, or else you can do more harm than good.
